Worth a detour is Bryce Canyon National Park which is, despite its name, not a canyon, but a collection of giant natural amphitheaters. Breathtaking and striking views into the formations are accessible by following the rim road. Nevertheless, for a more authentic outdoor adventure, go hiking. Bryce Canyon is distinctive due to geological structures called hoodoos, formed by frost weathering and stream erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange, and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views. With an elevation up to 9,000 feet, this place sits at a much higher elevation than nearby Zion National Park.
