Rockavaria is a quite young festival, started in 2015 for the first time. Back then, it took place in Olympic Park with Olympic Stadium and Olympic Hall as two of the major venues. In 2018, it moved to the heart of Munich, with main stage directly located at Königsplatz.
The festival is all about Rock, Metal, Punk and Alternative music featuring headliners until today such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nightwish, or Muse.
Wonderful spacious Königsplatz is framed by the Glyptothek, Munich's oldest public museum and dedicated to ancient sculpture. A calm and peaceful place. Mingle with students sitting on the lawn and having a picnic. In summer, this is also a venue for open air concerts (also part of Rockavaria festival) and public opera performances.
The collection of Alte Pinakothek encompasses more than 700 artworks from the 14th to the 18th century. The building was erected by Leo von Klenze between 1826 and 1836 in Neoclassical style.
