This neighbourhood is the very place where the Beatles story began. In July 1957, 15-year-old Paul McCartney was introduced first time to 16-year-old John Lennon by a mutual friend. John performed with his band The Quarrymen at a garden fete at St Peter Church. For Woolton, a small district of Liverpool, this party was one of the highlights of the year.
The historic meeting was only brief but Paul demonstrated his musical talent, playing Rock 'n' Roll classics. John was impressed and invited him to join the group. An invitation which Paul accepted some days later. That was the day, that it started moving and one of the most legendary partnerships of all time began. Just around the corner there is a plaque reminding of this meeting.
On the graveyard itself, the grave of Eleanor Rigby featured in the 1966 Beatles’ song can be found. Paul McCartney later stated that the name of the song didn't derive from the grave. Anyway, it is more than possible that John as well as have noticed the grave, whether conciouscly or subconsciously, as they spend much time sitting around the place and smoking.
