Right on Stanley Street is the Eleanor Rigby Statue, designed by entertainer Tommy Steele. It is based on the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby and pays tribute to the Fab Four. It was unveiled on 3 December 1982.
The female bronze figure is sitting on a stone bench with a handbag on her lap, a shopping bag with a milk bottle inside to her right, and a copy of a newspaper to her left. Sitting on the newspaper is a sparrow and a piece of bread.
