30 November 1979 marks a date that has lingered long in the memory of a group of Islington Green School students.
It’s the day when Pink Floyd released their hit concept album The Wall. On this 23 students had a starring role as a choir on one of the most iconic singles of the 80s.
Music teacher Alun Renshaw was approached by the band to round up some pupils to sing the chorus for single Another Brick in the Wall (Part II) at the Britannia Row recording studios just around the corner. Roger Waters had decided he needed some London kids to sing the iconic line We Don’t Need No Education on the single.
The school is now called City of London Academy Islington.
