Legendary Hacienda first opened its doors in June 1982 featuring a live music stage, three bars, a huge dancefloor, a restaurant, and cozy cafe. The venue developed into one of the hippest spots in Manchester, with the likes of New Order, Madonna, The Smiths, The Stones Roses, and Happy Mondays being frequent guests in Whitworth Street. It also gained a reputation for dance music parties hosting famous DJs, as the Madchester craze took off in the late 80s.
The building also housed the Canal Bar with plenty of acts played this stage, too. The most renowned one probably Oasis with their legendary set from 14 September 1993 featuring songs like Shakermaker being performed live for the first time ever.
Hacienda was closed in 1997, being converted into flats afterwards.
