Located east of the inner city at Munich exhibition centre, these modern hotels are nevertheless close to the subway taking you directly into the heart of the Bavarian capital or close to venues such as Tonhalle.
Right across the street is the old tower of Airport Riem, the city's former airport. What makes this a special place for music enthusiasts?
It was on 1 March 1994 in terminal 1 that Grunge superstars Nirvana played their 3rd concert in Munich after the ones in 1989 and 1991. And this should be their very last one. On the following day another concert was planned in here, but lead singer Kurt Cobain - on purpose or not - stressed his voice way too much in the first gig, so he had to cancel the next day's gig. Afterwards, events happened quickly. Kurt and his wife Courtney Love flew to Rome, Italy, where he attempted suicide according to the press and slipped into an overdose-induced coma. He regained consciousness in hospital and recovered. It was only few weeks later, on 5 April 1994, that Kurt Cobain was found dead in Seattle, USA. Reportedly, he has shot himself.
