Repeatedly voted to one of the best venues in Germany for Metal live gigs, Backstage in Munich offers a brilliant music billing during the whole year. Its event calendar is not only packed with all kinds of Metal, but also sees Punk, Hardcore, Alternative and Hard Rock.
The location offers thee main concert halls, a beer garden, and a public viewing area for sports events such as football championships.
Backstage also has its own summer festival. During July and August Free & Easy Festival can be enjoyed for free, hosting bigger names in the business, but also supporting local upcoming bands.
One evening in the late 90s, a main act cancelled on short notice. As replacement the Backstage management got a recommendation for a small school band from Munich suburb Germering. It was the first big gig for the kids back then. Today we know them as Sportfreunde Stiller. Backstage is also the place, where, in 1999, US rapper Eminem gave his first ever concert in Germany.
