Odeonsplatz is one of the must-sees when in Munich. Developed in the early 19th century by Leo von Klenze, it is named for the former concert hall, the Odeon, on its southwestern side. Nearby are beautiful Theatinerkirche, impressive Wittelsbacherplatz, Baroque park Hofgarten, and Feldherrnhalle. The latter was the site of the brief battle that ended Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch in 1923. Also worth a visit is Residenz - former royal palace of the Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria.
